چکیده

Abstract Conservation programs often aim to protect the abundance of individual species and biodiversity simultaneously. We quantified relations between amphipod densities aquatic macrophyte (large plants algae) diversity test a hypothesis that can support high single taxonomic group. Amphipods ( Gammarus lacustris Hyalella azteca ) are key forage for waterfowl declining in Prairie Pothole Region North America. sampled large gradient (0–7050 amphipods/m 3 49 semi-permanent wetlands, 50% study wetlands had (> 500 ). Generalized linear models revealed G. H. increased exponentially with indices. Further, were greatest at moderate levels submersed vegetation biomass. Community analyses showed both positively associated diverse assemblages negatively coverage cattails Typha spp.), taxon creates monotypic stands, as well bladderwort Utricularia carnivorous plant. Our results indicate amphipods could be used an umbrella protecting communities permanent America’s Region.

Aquatic macrophyte and macroinvertebrate diversity and conservation in wetlands of the Sinos River basin.

Wetlands are important sites for biological conservation because they support rich biodiversity and present high productivity. Species-area relationship is an important tool in conservation planning and it has been extensively used for wetland management. This study had as aims: (1) to analyse macrophyte and macroinvertebrate diversity in the fragmented wetlands of the Sinos River basin; and (2...

Comparison of aquatic macrophyte community structure between natural wetlands and rice fields with different cultivation ages.

Recent studies indicate that rice fields contribute to the conservation of aquatic plants, however, repeated cultivation can reduce the species diversity harbored by rice fields. Repeated tillage, agrochemical application and environmental homogeneity can reduce plant diversity and select for species more tolerant to disturbance. Our hypotheses were: 1) macrophyte richness and biomass decrease ...

Distribution and abundance of high aquatic plants in the Gorganroud River, the Caspian Sea basin, Iran

The distribution and abundance of high aquatic plants in the Gorganroud River was examined at five stations in four seasons (20 samples) over one year period during 2009-2010. We identified 21 species of aquatic plants from 21 genera, belonging to 9 families. These species were determined as 3 halophytic species (14.2%) and 18 high aquatic plants (85.7%).The highest species diversity was observ...

Aquatic Invertebrates of Prairie Wetlands: Community Composition, Ecological Roles, and Impacts of Agriculture

The southern portions of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta are covered with millions of small water-filled depressions called prairie potholes. These wetlands provide habitat for a diverse array of aquatic invertebrates, which provide an important food resource for the abundant fauna that use these wetlands. Other functions and values of the aquatic invertebrates are not as well known. More i...
